Jesus is supreme

Make as many statements as you can about why Jesus is supreme (vv. 15-18). Begin each with, "Christ is ..."

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

1. Christ is the image of the invisible God: image( in greek) implies a term of revelation, is perfect like the Father. (v15 He is the image of the invisible God)

2. Christ is the firstborn of (old?)Creation: firstborn implies uniqueness, being distinguished from all creation. He is both prior to and supreme over that creation since he is its Lord. (v15 the firstborn of all creation.)

3. Christ is the instrument by which God uses to create the world. (v16 all things were created through him and for him.)

4. Christ is supreme over all authorities, ( v16 in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities)

5. Christ is the ultimate goal of all creation. (v16 all things were created through him and for him.)

6. Christ is the sustainer (v17 in him all things hold together)
