Reflections For The Day 8th Oct 2010 Friday

Proverbs 16:4

The Lord has made everything for its purpose,
even the wicked for the day of trouble

What is the relationship between God and evil? How can these two possibly co-exist in this world?

There is a new kind of teaching out there that suggests that maybe God doesn’t know everything; hence he is powerless and helpless on the evil that goes on in our daily lives. A conclusion based on such a thought would be that there is no purpose in suffering, especially for the faithful. This idea is baseless, illogical , and frankly does not reflect God’s true nature. It is nonsensical to think that everything else that is painful has no purpose. Such ideas are derived as a result of false teachings such as Open Theism and Prosperity Gospel.

This verse found in Proverbs 16 clearly shows us that God is in control of all things on earth. Even in the wicked and evil events going on around the world, God is using these things to bring about his grand purpose- that is to bring him all the glory. Such a thought is too high to comprehend initially for anyone who is sincere in faith. However, on a closer examination, it should fire us unto worship because only such a powerful God is worthy of our praise and adoration.

What kind of a God do you worship? One would seek a painless life worships a ‘Mickey Mouse’ God. And another one who seek God for the all the worldly pleasures certainly worship a Santa God. On the basis of the last two gods mentioned, the follower is certainly an idol-worshipper.  Only one who seek God for God himself, irregardless of the pain, poverty and disappointment in life, worships the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY - the one true and living God .

Shalom
